About me

As founder and president of Crystal Agency for makeup, hair, and fashion styling, Crystal has guided her company to become one of the most dynamic and respected talent agencies of its kind. For seventeen years, the agency has represented some of the most talented and sought after hair, makeup, and fashion stylists in the business. Magazines, record labels, production companies, public relations firms and entertainment executives rely on the talented artists at Crystal Agency.
Pursued for advice by a number of young hopefuls in the industry, Crystal thought of writing a book that would guide aspiring stylists in developing the right tools, skills and professionalism necessary to establish a successful career behind-the-scenes in entertainment, fashion and beauty. Her book, The Hair, Makeup & Styling Career Guide, is used as a textbook for the fashion styling courses at world renowned fashion colleges, including The Fashion Institute of Technology, F.I.D.M, the International Academy of Design, AIU and Bauder College.
Her grandmother, a strong woman whose guidance, wisdom and lessons bolstered her in the face of adversity and gave her the self-confidence to pursue her dreams, raised Crystal in Tacoma, Washington. "She was the most important influence in my life," says Crystal. "Her advice to me, was โ€˜that I should go to school so I could get an education, get good grades so I could go to ANY college I wanted, and play sports so I would be competitive.' With those tools, she believed that I could do anything I set my mind to."
Crystal was the first member of the family to go to college. She attended Seattle University and the University of Washington. While pursuing her education, she landed a summer internship at the Seattle branch of Xerox Corporation, where she proved so competent that the last day of her internship closed with on offer letter from the branch manager for a full-time position as a marketing representative. In less than a year, she was among the top sales executives in the region.
A weekend visit to Los Angeles prompted a transfer to the Long Beach, California branch of the company, where Crystal continued to excel but began to launch business plans of her own. A chance meeting with a professional photographer resulted in a decision to leave Xerox and become his agent. But shortly after the move she was fired. With two options, return to Xerox and beg for her job back or move on, she reluctantly opened Crystal Agency with one makeup artist.
Her company grew steadily and she added representation of hair stylists, fashion stylists and photographers. Her first fashion stylist, Michelle Cole went on to become the costume designer on the hit variety show โ€œIn Living Colorโ€.
Crystal developed a reputation for being professional, hard working and meticulous. "I never forgot what I learned in corporate America. Plan the work and work the plan. That's what worked for me in the past, and it still works today." Crystal's logo has become a familiar sight on the desks and walls of photographers, art directors, fashion editors and video producers
Today CrystalWrightLive.com serves as a portal for the freelance makeup, hair and fashion styling community. Her portfolio building and marketing workshop tour is called a career must-do, informational, inspirational and empowering by former students.
